Create a component inventory
Ask the roofer to record the slate selection, visible flashing materials, gutters, penetrations, and known previous repairs. Identify components that may need attention without assuming the entire slate field must be renewed at the same time. Use the condition assessment to establish priorities rather than assigning every element the same predicted service life.

Preserve repair options
Keep matching spare slate and the information needed to source compatible materials. When a component is repaired, record the date and its location on the roof map. Ask how future access or replacement can be carried out without unnecessary disturbance to sound areas. A component-based record supports deliberate maintenance and makes it easier to understand why one part of an otherwise serviceable roof needs work.
