Coordinate the whole roof section
Have the design team review structure, moisture control, insulation, ventilation strategy, and any new roof openings as a connected assembly. Provide the slate roof's condition report and maintenance history. Do not assume that a roof which has performed well over an unoccupied attic will behave identically after the interior arrangement changes.

Protect future serviceability
Discuss access to roof-related components and how new interior finishes might conceal signs of moisture or make later investigation harder. Coordinate skylights, vents, or dormers with the slater before work begins. Keep the final assembly drawings and product information with the building records. The roof covering is one part of the conversion, so decisions should be made by the appropriate professionals across the project.
