Assess both scopes together
Ask the mason and slater to review the chimney condition and flashing relationship before work starts. Identify whether existing metal will remain, be temporarily protected, or be renewed. Discuss how debris, tools, and access equipment will be kept from damaging the slate. Record any pre-existing defects so later questions can be assessed fairly.

Inspect before the junction is closed
Coordinate the work so relevant connections can be examined before they are concealed. Clarify who supplies progress photographs and who confirms that the roofing portion is complete. If the masonry scope changes, have the roof connection reviewed again. Keep one combined record of the work rather than separate invoices that do not explain what happened at the shared detail.
