Inspect how it is attached
Ask the appropriate contractors to identify the mounting points, cables, and penetrations before removal. Some attachments may involve walls or chimneys as well as the slate roof. Record the locations and arrange access that protects the existing roofing. Do not assume that cutting away the visible equipment completes the work.

Close the building envelope
Have a qualified roofer assess the affected slate and flashing and specify the appropriate reinstatement. Coordinate any masonry repairs with that work. Keep completion photographs and note where former penetrations were located in the roof record. If an abandoned attachment remains, document why it was retained and what future attention it may need rather than leaving unexplained hardware for the next contractor.
