Have the contractor explain how the roof will be divided into work areas and how each stage will be protected. The appropriate opening limit depends on project conditions, crew, access, weather, and the proposed assembly. Owners should not prescribe it from a general rule of thumb.

Coordinate inspections and discoveries
Identify any checks needed before an area is covered and how unexpected substrate conditions will be reported. If a discovery changes the sequence, record the revised plan. A clearly communicated opening strategy helps the owner understand the work and lets connected trades plan their involvement without leaving important junctions unresolved between stages.
