Choose locations deliberately
Discuss options with an experienced installer before attaching anything to roof surfaces, flashing, or drainage components. Do not drill or nail through slate to hang temporary decorations. Avoid assuming an attachment that works on another roof covering is suitable here. Ask how the display can be installed and removed without walking directly on the slate or disturbing existing details.

Inspect the removal process
Record where temporary attachments were placed and have them removed without leaving debris in gutters or valleys. From the ground, compare the roof and gutter lines with earlier photographs. If a piece appears displaced or an attachment has damaged a detail, arrange a professional assessment. Keep decorative work separate from roofing repairs unless the person doing it is qualified for both.
