Explaining a slate roof project to church supporters

A useful project update tells supporters what the building needs, what work is proposed, and what remains to be decided.

01

Use evidence people can understand

Show labeled photographs and explain the difference between a slate defect, a flashing issue, and damage inside the building. Avoid claiming that every roof problem requires full replacement unless the professional assessment supports it. Describe the purpose of the proposed phase and how it protects the building's use and character.

02

Report progress consistently

Use the same roof-zone names in committee notes, contractor updates, and public explanations. Distinguish completed work from planned work and disclose meaningful scope changes in plain language. If presenting photographs, confirm that they depict the actual building and correct stage of work. Clear records support trust and also leave future committees a useful account of why the project was undertaken.
