Scheduling slate roof work around church services

Roof work at an occupied church needs a schedule that accounts for daily building use as well as the roofing sequence.

01

Map the occupied activities

Share service times, funerals, weddings, school activities, and regular deliveries with the contractor. Identify entrances that must remain available and areas where equipment or material storage would conflict with access. Ask the project team to plan appropriate protection and communication rather than relying on building users to improvise around the work.

02

Keep changes visible

Designate a contact for short-notice events and weather-related schedule adjustments. Provide clear notices about affected entrances and work areas through the church's normal communication channels. Discuss noise-sensitive periods and any interior spaces needing special protection. Record these agreements in the project schedule so a change in crew or committee member does not erase the practical arrangements that keep the building usable.
