Five questions before closing out a slate roofing job

A finished appearance is only one part of handover. The owner should also know what was installed and how the roof will be cared for.

01

Review the completed scope

Ask which areas were repaired or replaced, whether any planned work changed, and whether unresolved observations remain. Compare the final account with progress photographs and approved changes. Confirm that retained material and repaired details can be located on the roof sketch. Request any product and workmanship documents that were included in the agreement.

02

Prepare for the next service visit

Ask where spare slate is stored, whom to contact for service, and what inspections or care the contractor recommends for this roof. These form the remaining handover questions alongside scope, changes, and unresolved items. Keep the answers in one file available to future owners or managers. Closing the job should also open a practical maintenance record.
