Assess the connection before removal
Have the contractor identify how fascia, gutters, eave construction, and slate relate at the actual building. Ask the slater which adjacent pieces or flashings may need temporary removal and reinstatement. A carpentry scope should not assume that the roof edge will remain unaffected simply because the field slate is staying.

Sequence the trades
Agree who provides temporary protection, repairs underlying construction, and reinstates the finished roof connection. Check the assembled detail before repeating it along the full eave. Keep photographs where concealed deterioration is found. A coordinated repair addresses the damaged trim while maintaining the roof edge's intended support and drainage relationships.
