Define the removal scope
Have the appropriate trade confirm what the flue serves and how it can be decommissioned. Coordinate with the roofer before removal so the roof is not left dependent on an improvised cover. Identify any concealed opening or support work that must be addressed.

Restore the roof assembly
Ask the contractor to describe the substrate repair, required underlying layers, and slate reinstatement rather than merely patching around the former penetration. Review matching material and the surrounding layout. Keep photographs and a note of the decommissioning work. Future owners should be able to distinguish a properly restored area from an unidentified opening hidden beneath later roofing.
