Have the roofer examine the surrounding area and assess whether the damage is isolated or part of a wider pattern. Review nearby access, previous work, and other relevant observations without assuming a cause from the fragment alone. The condition of slate elsewhere on the roof should be assessed on its own evidence.

Request a proportionate recommendation
The report should explain whether a targeted repair, further investigation, or broader work is justified. Ask which observations support the recommended scope and which areas remain uninspected. Keep photographs and the repair record. This approach avoids both dismissing a meaningful warning sign and treating one visible defect as proof that every component has failed.
