Pause the relevant decision
Ask the contractor to photograph and locate the discovery before the evidence is removed or covered. Record what is visible without immediately deciding that it establishes the complete original roof. Inform the designer or preservation lead so the finding can be evaluated within the project's evidence.

Review the effect on the scope
The discovery may justify a design change, further investigation, or simply better documentation. Record the agreed response and any resulting material or schedule changes. Keep the original proposal and revised decision distinguishable. This preserves a clear account of why the completed roof differs from the design that was initially approved.
