Compare the actual material
Have an experienced slater assess condition, dimensions, thickness, and suitability for the proposed receiving roof. Determine whether enough usable pieces can be recovered for the intended scope. Include the condition of the donor building and any relevant preservation considerations in the decision.

Plan removal and allocation
Record where the slate came from and which pieces are accepted for reuse. Keep rejected or uncertain material separate. Ask how the work will protect both buildings during the transfer. A reuse plan should account for assessment, handling, sorting, and reinstatement; it is not simply a way to turn the donor roof area into an equal quantity of guaranteed replacement coverage.
