Keep the damage visible long enough to investigate
Photograph the stain before cleaning or painting and share the images with the roofer. Covering discoloration immediately can make it harder to compare later changes. Ask the appropriate building professional to assess damp materials and identify any separate interior repair needs. A roof repair invoice alone does not establish that everything beneath the roof has dried.

Coordinate the final finish
Arrange follow-up observations after weather similar to the event that caused the leak. Discuss drying and surface preparation with the interior contractor before finishing work begins. Keep the original photographs and the roof repair date in the project file. If a new stain appears, this record helps distinguish a continuing leak from an old mark bleeding through a finish.
