When the same slate roof area needs repeated repairs

Repeated trouble in one location deserves a review of the underlying detail rather than another isolated replacement without explanation.

01

Compare the pattern over time

Gather invoices and photographs from previous visits. Mark whether the same piece, the neighboring course, or a nearby flashing has failed again. Ask about service traffic from chimney, antenna, or gutter work that may affect the area. Several incidents at one junction can tell a different story from unrelated breakage scattered across the roof.

02

Request a broader explanation

Have the slater assess the surrounding layout and connections, including how water reaches and leaves that area. Ask whether the proposed work changes the failure mechanism or merely replaces the visible symptom. If a different trade also works nearby, coordinate access and protection. The goal is a repair that can be inspected and maintained later, with the reasoning recorded for the next service visit.
