Color is part of the geology
Vermont sources include blacks, greens, gray-greens, purples, reds and weathering varieties. Some colors retain a more uniform appearance while others develop warm tones and variation after exposure. Samples and project photographs should represent the specified quarry and grade.

Specify more than a color name
A complete selection considers source, thickness, size, finish, weathering behavior, sorting and test results. Similar trade names can be used differently in the market, so the written proposal should identify the actual producer and product.

Use blends intentionally
Mixed colors can create historic or expressive roofs, but blend percentages and distribution should be planned. Mockups help confirm the desired appearance. Installers should draw from multiple pallets or crates as required to avoid unintended blocks of color.
