Record the discovery safely
Keep people away from an area where additional material may fall and contact an appropriate roofing professional. Photograph the piece where found if it is safe to do so, then record the date and recent weather or nearby work. Do not climb onto the roof to search for the source. A fragment may have come from a roof edge, an earlier repair, or another disturbed location.

Support the inspection
Give the contractor the photographs and explain whether this has happened before. If safely retained, the piece may help with material identification or matching, but the roof still needs assessment. Ask for the source location and resulting repair to be documented. Keep that record so a later discovery can be compared with an identified event rather than treated as an entirely new mystery.
