Make an inventory
Vent pipes, skylights, service supports, and other openings can require different details. Walk through the drawings with the roofer and list each item, including equipment scheduled for removal. Do not assume that a single allowance for penetrations covers every existing and planned condition.

Resolve changes before roofing closes
If a pipe is moving, coordinate its final location before the surrounding slate is completed. Ask how abandoned openings are repaired and who supplies the new flashing components. Keep the inventory with completion photographs. This gives future service contractors a starting point and reduces the risk that an old opening is forgotten beneath a temporary-looking patch.
